The importance of Science
A-level students from Bosworth recently completed a questionnaire for Aspires 2 (science and career aspirations: age 10-19) – a nationwide study of students’ career aspirations and attitudes to science.
The students were asked a variety of questions based on their views about science. Questions were broken down into the categories listed below and they were asked to pick one of three answers: agree or strongly agree / neither agree nor disagree / disagree or strongly disagree.
Science has always been high on the agenda at Bosworth Independent College and many of our students choose biology, chemistry or physics at A-level. We therefore expected to have high percentages to the answers relating positively towards science and indeed that was the outcome; all our answers were significantly higher than other schools in the project. For example 100% of our students felt that studying biology or chemistry would help them in the future and 100% believed if they studied hard they would do well in science. 83% believed scientists are brainy and do valuable work. We are pleased that our students recognise the importance of science and have such positive attitudes towards their science subjects at school and hopefully beyond!
