How many different nationalities are there at the College?
We are currently home to 36 different nationalities and welcome the diversity this brings the college. Our top 5 nationalities this year include: Britain, China, Iran, Hong Kong and Nigeria but it can change year on year.
How big are the classes?
In an average class there would be 8 students. In some classes there will be fewer and in others slightly more but no class would normally exceed 12.
What are the timings of the school day?
The timetable runs from 08.30 to 17.55. However core hours are from 09.00 to 16.00. Depending on a student’s timetable some days they may start early and others they may end late, but this will not normally be the case five days a week.
Do you have a uniform?
We don’t believe a uniform is a pre-requisite for achieving good results. Our students and teachers work so hard that uniform is an unnecessary distraction for which we simply don’t have time! However, we do ask that students wear clean, comfortable clothing and ensure they have warm clothes for the winter.
What level of English do I require if English is not my first language?
The level of English required varies for each programme:
GCSE IELTS 5.5
A-level IELTS 5.5-6.5
BTEC Business IELTS 5.5
University Foundation Programmes IELTS 5.5
English Language Courses IELTS 4.5
What type of boarding accommodation do you have?
We have six fully-supervised boarding houses, where students reside with a houseparent. These offer a mixture of single and twin rooms in each property as well as a common room and kitchen area where students may make drinks and light snacks. All meals are provided at Bosworth Hall, the social hub of the college.
Older students who are over 18 and have college and parental consent can move into one of our Senior Houses. This is where 4-6 students live semi-independently in a nearby house. An adult visits each day and in addition spot-checks can be made on Senior Houses to ensure rules are adhered to. All meals continue to be offered to Senior House students in the College restaurant at Bosworth Hall. All of our accommodation is owned and maintained by the college, includes WIFI and is within walking distance of the college.
What can students do outside of lessons?
We try to encourage both boarding and day students to take part in our extra-curricular activities. Every week we offer the following sports in the evening: basketball, football, badminton and volleyball – Rock School also runs every Tuesday evening. Every term we offer weekend trips and activities that students can sign up for and we offer a variety of options from places of interest such as; Cambridge and Oxford to activities like Rock Climbing and Go Karting, local theatre trips, theme parks, university visits and Christmas and Summer Balls. Students have plenty to get involved with as well as enrichment activities that they can opt to take once a week.
Do you have a Student Council?
Students representing day and boarding students from each course are selected by their student colleagues to the Student Council. This group usually meets each week and can organise social events, charity events and other extracurricular activities. The Student Council may lobby senior staff on matters they consider to be of concern. The Chairman of the Student Council may communicate any areas of students’ concerns directly to the Principal.
Can we pay the fees in installments?
We ask for the fee to be paid in two instalments and will explain the timings of this when a place is offered. Any other arrangement for payment of fees is to be discussed with the Principal.
